House Allath

Project name: Allath

Builtup area:  2000 sqft

Site area:  30 cent

Location: Perinthalmanna, Kerala

Nested among dense natural cover, 'House Allath' follows the notions of present lifestyle, yet stays rooted in Kerala's rich Vernacular architectural history. Minimalist design approach of Allath resonates in its overall built envelope, colour and material palette.

House Allath is located in a rural setting of Poonthanam, land named after great poet Poonthanam Namboothiri. Traditional form of the house takes inspiration from the family's neighbouring ‘Tharavadu’ (Ancestral home), to achieve a rustic feel exteriors are given offwhite, greys, faded red of reused mangalore roof tiles and pastel colors for highlight. Spatial planning divides the floor plates into two zones of semi public and private. Living and dining have a staircase inbetween that allows a degree of privacy to the spaces and becomes an interesting spatial feature.Furniture in common areas are mostly inbuilt during structural stage as both cost saving and space saving measure. Four bedrooms are similar in size and layout with inbuilt wardrobe and attached toilets. Family living with a study area is designed as a floating platform between the double height living and dining, this gives a visual connection between the floor plates and makes the common areas feel larger.
